VTB Appoints New Venture Capital, Private Equity Head

VTB Asset Management is putting its venture capital and private equity management team back together following last months management shake up. Aidar Kaliyev has been named Head of the Department of Direct and Venture Investments at VTB Asset Management.

Kaliyev previously headed the board of directors at OOO Summa Telecom (SumTel), a fiber optic network infrastructure provider.  From 2006-2008 he was General Director of ZAO Inventis Telecom, the management company of telecommunications holding Eventis Telecom, and from 2001-2005 he worked in key positions at Kyrgyzstan energo Electrical Stations and KyrgyzGaz.

VTB Asset Management’s venture funds have a total of 5.5 billion rubles (approximately $180 million) under management and controls 5 venture funds:  VTB Venture Fund, managed in cooperation with Russian Venture Company (over 3 billion rubles, or $100 million) as well as regional venture funds (Saratov, Nizhegorodsky Oblast, Moscow and Saint Petersburg with total assets of 2.3 billion rubles.

The team also co-manages a new nanotechnology and innovation fund in cooperation with RosNano and private equity/venture fund DFJ-VTB Aurora.
